About Irradiated PBMC

Irradiated peripheral blood mononuclear cells are normal PBMC that have been exposed to 25 Gy of radiation from a cesium 137 source. This dosage of radiation creates enough DNA damage so the cells cannot divide, yet they are still able to produce cytokines and other soluble factors. These PBMC are ideal for use as antigen-presenting cells or as a feeder layer for other cells as their lack of proliferation prevents them from contaminating your cells of interest.

Irradiated PBMC can be used in combination with anti-CD3 antibodies to stimulate T cell activation and proliferation or can be used as a stimulant in a mixed lymphocyte reaction. PBMC exposed to radiation in this manner are a safe, ready-to-use alternative to PBMC that have been treated with the toxic chemical, mitomycin C.
