Neutrophils are known for the oxidative burst released during phagocytosis, which demonstrates the intracellular killing mechanism that is key to the function of the immune system. Until now, we were not able to demonstrate this oxidative burst in our cryopreserved neutrophil products even though we knew they were capable of phagocytosis.

Improved Isolation Methods

Our cryopreserved neutrophils are a unique product because they are sensitive to standard freezing medium and methods. Thanks to our improved isolation methods, we’ve reduced the number of handling steps to prevent potential activation of the cells. Now we can observe production of reactive oxygen species after stimulating the neutrophils.

In addition to observing the oxidative burst, one of our customers has also demonstrated the killing of Staphylococcus aureus in a bactericidal assay.

What This Means for You

These improved isolation methods and demonstration of the important oxidative burst mean our neutrophils are now more representative of the cells in vivo. These will be better tools for your in vitro experiments, so check them out!
